Having been a photographer for over half a decade, Farhan never did once sign up for any photography or art courses. The only subjects he learnt on his own were of the technical aspects of the camera as a tool and the film as the canvas.

Farhan shared a close relationship to the ever changing times and records the present as he sees it. His conviction to keep his photography unique in its form probably enabled his viewers to identify it as his signature style. Ranging from architectural facades, street scenes, conceptual and sometimes the surreal, he has made his works synonymous to his tag line ‘Flâneur Fotografi’ - aimless photography with each in its own splendor.

Farhan believes that to conform to what ‘works’ as a photograph and to fully adopt any experimental or specific methodology would only restrict one from breaking new grounds.

# Jason Lee

Jason Lee, 22, Singapore

Jason Lee graduated with a Diploma in Visual Communication (Photography Design) from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2006. He often associates social issues with his artworks as he believes that it is important as an artist to spread thought-provoking messages that the society is oblivious to. He also feels that artists are, in a way, rejects of the society because artists tend to think differently. Thus, art in today’s modern society plays a fundamental role, be it creating awareness, educating, stirring up controversies, criticism or discourse.

# Mohammed Faizal

Mohammed Faizal, 25, Singapore

An artist, musician and also a firm believer of freedom of thought and expression, Faizal plays godfather to stray cats by giving them food whenever he sees them around.

Faizal started drawing at a young age; inspired by comic books and other illustrative books that caught his attention. He did not do well academically as he spends his time in school doodling instead of actually studying. Currently, he is studying animation in Nanyang Polytechnic, a hard-earned spot he got through portfolio reviews and interviews.

Faizal’s art is usually a combination of both traditional and digital media. He paints and draws his surroundings, highlighting details that people tend to look away from.

A group visual arts exhibition by tastes+RED inc.

A collaboration between five young like-minded artists from Singapore and the Philippines, We Don’t Need No Education is a group art exhibition that toys with the concept of education; superficiality, normalcy, systems and stereotypes.

It is not about doing away with school, training or knowledge. It is for the elimination of superficial education, one which imposes what is right and wrong for the benefit of a certain few. This education could also be the grip of normalcy and acceptance which mass society and/or rigid systems have on the individual, to shape and restrict actions. Supporters of various social causes, the works of these artists are also intertwined with social connotations.
